Prague 2 Ch QF: Alex Molcan [8] def. Rudolf Molleker [4] 6-4, 6-2 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
R. Molleker might have seemed to have a solid start when he was up a double break to 3-0 in the first set, but until A. Molcan regained his forehand range before breaking back to 3-1, the latter struggled to find his range. It might have taken a while, but the eighth seed was successful in maintaining his range (despite some moments) until he broke for the first set 6-4. Since then, he appeared even firmer in the second set, and cumulatively, he scored 6 times more break points than R. Molleker (12 to 2) even though the latter converted 100% of his break points by the start of this match.
Besides, A. Molcan appeared more consistent on serve despite the first set chaos as a result of a firmer second set showing. Scoring thrice more aces than R. Molleker (6 to 2), A. Molcan won 5% more points from his first serves with a 65% first serve winning percentage, and due to R. Molleker double-faulting thrice, it faded his second serve winning percentage 24% below A. Molcan, who won 3% fewer of his second serve points than his first, confirming his consistency throughout the match.
In tomorrow's semifinal, A. Molcan will face Gauthier Onclin, who defeated Javier Barranco Cosano 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 later that day in the quarterfinals. As both players went back on track in their own ways, this match tested their offensive capabilities, and how they could achieve their balance of power while trying to figure out their aggression. Should be interesting to see who stood out, at the end of the day!

Are we sure Stan Wawrinka lost against Molcan? Because I just saw the end of the match and it was insane. Stan would NOT give up. He came back from 5-2, despite Molcan serving for the match.

Tumblr media
India Sumit Nagal: India Sumit Nagal made his way through to the Australian Open men’s singles main draw after beating Alex Molcan of Slovakia 6-4, 6-4 in the final round of the qualifiers here on Friday. Nagal, currently 139th in the singles world ranking, entered the main round of a Grand Slam event for the first time since 2021, marking his fourth overall grand slam main draw appearance. The Indian marked his grand slam main draw debut in 2019 US Open, when he faced Roger Federer in his opening round match and managed to take first set against the Swiss legend before losing the match 6-4, 1-6, 2-6, 4-6. At 2020 US Open main draw, Nagal won his opening round match against Bradley Klahn, becoming first Indian since Somdev Devvarman (2013 US Open) to win a singles match in the main draw of a Grand Slam. However, he was defeated by eventual champion Dominic Thiem in the second round. However, the second set almost became a one-way traffic as soon as R. Molleker missed his final shots. To start, in the second game, he misfired his forehand for A. Molcan's first break point that even if his backhand pass saved them, the eighth seed managed to break due to his double fault (2-0) before smoothly consolidating his lead to 3-0.
The Slovak eighth seed had not looked back since, where he ended up benefitting from R. Molleker's unforced errors. After a double fault somewhere, a backhand misfire while trying to respond to A. Molcan's preceding forehand resulted in the latter's 2-point lead. Somehow, another forehand error caused A. Molcan to break for the match, taking the second set 6-2 to secure his spot in the semifinals.
